Popi was founded in 1989, primarily as a design studio. Father Peter and sons Ian and Graeme opened the doors to the Maidstone based creative agency which began in the back room of their family home in the time of the last recession, riots, poll tax and Thatcher.

A lettering artist by trade, Peter had worked for the biggest and best agencies in London. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ian, his eldest son, had worked his way up from a paste up boy to a fully fledged creative artworker. Together they were to become the design force within popi while Graeme focussed on the sales, accounts and customer service side of the business. He would later go on to add with the dawn of the Internet, online based sales, designing and maintaining websites and various other forms of e-marketing to add to popi’s range of services.

Very early on we began to print handle the jobs we were designing for our clients, managing the whole creative process and it remained this way until 2005 when we invested in our purpose built printworks close to the River Medway in Larkfield. Fast forward to 2011 and popi is now a fully fledged design studio with its own fully established printworks capable of printing and finishing almost everything we produce under our own roof, where our designers are able to go and see the work they have created hot off the press.

From the very outset we have abided to a set of ‘commandments’ to ensure our clients are always satisfied;

• Good clear communication is key, always answer the phone with a smile
• If there’s an opportunity to improve upon something, take it
• Don’t be afraid to comment if you feel a customer is taking the wrong approach on their marketing
• Keep it fresh, most companies change design agency if they feel the ideas are going stale
• Exceed our customers expectations whenever possible
• Remember the “No Problem” ethos, we probably picked up the customer in the first place due to a previous supplier having a problem!
• 90% of our new customers are obtained through recommendations, they won’t recommend us unless you do a good job
